What is a rhinoplasty surgery?
A rhinoplasty surgery is a procedure to reshape or reconstruct your nose. It’s a common surgery andusually called as “a nose job”. Although most people know rhinoplasty or nose job as a type of cosmetic surgery, but rhinoplasty is actually a more all-around surgery than most people think. Some people go for a medical rhinoplastysurgery in Singapore because their nose doesn’t function as it is supposed to, such as trouble breathing, nose defect, and so forth. For others, their nose is perfectly healthy, but they feel like the shape can be made better. This is a cosmetic rhinoplasty.
How does rhinoplasty surgeries works?
A rhinoplasty surgery aims to change either one or more of these aspects: the width of the nose, the length of the nose, and the tip of the nose. The techniques used for the surgery will depend on what the patient needs.
Are there any non-surgical alternatives to rhinoplasty surgery?
Yes, there are non-surgical alternatives to rhinoplasty surgery, such as fillers and threads. With fillers, the goal is to add volume to fix the shape of your nose. With threads, the goal is to use sutures that will either add volume or create a lift.
These non-surgical alternatives have more limitations compared to the surgical alternatives, and their results are not permanent. You cannot change how long or how wide your nose is with fillers and threads. The results usuallycan only last less than a year.
A good tip: go for fillers or threads first as a trial, to see whether you like the changes, and then go for an actual rhinoplasty surgery for a permanent result.
What are the different types of rhinoplasty surgeries in Singapore?
There are two types of rhinoplasty surgeries in Singapore, which are: open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. Closed rhinoplasty is called as “closed” because the whole procedure is done inside the nose and without showing any scar on the outside. It doesn’t require any incision on the outer skin. Usually, closed rhinoplasty is done to handle minor cases, such as fixing a little bit of the tip of your nose or a very basic and simple implant.
In open rhinoplasty, your surgeon will also do the procedure inside of your nose. The difference is that your surgeon will have to make some additional incisions on your columella, which is the skin located in between your nostrils. This incision mark will first be visible, but it can heal over time. If you are going for a major reconstruction of your nose, you will have to do an open rhinoplasty.
