The end of an era has finally arrived. Following a run of 29 years, the EA football game series will be renamed EA Sports FC moving forward after the release of FIFA 23, which is the final game to bear the FIFA name. Given how little appears to have changed for those machines from one year to the next, we also suspect that it will be the final game to be released for consoles from the previous generation. Since this essentially ushers at the end of the FIFA reign, to tell you the truth, you’ll have a tough time finding that many improvements in even the most recent generation’s versions of the game. The year 2024 will almost certainly bring EA’s most exciting new additions.
If this is the case, then does FIFA 23 still have enough to offer that will appeal to people outside of its core fanbase, or does it just consist of a bunch of new kits and fastest way to get FIFA 23 coins? The latest installment in the FIFA series, FIFA 23, is an accomplished and assured effort. It enhances the experience just enough to make everything worthwhile, but it is obvious that EA is holding back its most innovative ideas.
Ultimate Team is, as it always has been, the highlight of the experience, despite the fact that it is as traditional as it gets, employing the same Division Rivals and FUT Champs models that were developed and improved upon during the previous season’s run. However, there have been some improvements made, the most notable of which is the new chemistry system, which enables you to (at long last) use players from a variety of national leagues without suffering a significant penalty.
Additionally, the implementation of cross-platform play is significantly improved this time around, and the inclusion of women’s football is a welcome addition to the game overall.
However, the gameplay is extremely similar to other similar titles, with the exception of Hypermotion 2. Although there is a slight increase in the amount of strategy required, you will probably find that the strategies and play patterns that served you well in FIFA 22 will continue to serve you well in FIFA 23.
Therefore, there is a whiff of the same-old, same-old, but something tells us that fans really won’t care, while newcomers and those who have skipped a generation or two get what is arguably the best FIFA game ever made. When you load the game for the first time, you’ll notice that a significant portion of the design language from the previous year has been continued. The menu system has been updated with a new color scheme and some fancier graphical flourishes, but other than that, it is very similar to how it was before.
Despite the fact that you cannot yet compete against a women’s team or a particular female player in career mode, EA has promised to roll out additional content updates in the form of free DLC in the coming weeks. This will include the addition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia as a new playable tournament alongside the men’s World Cup Qatar, so there will definitely be more to look forward to.
This iteration of the game also improves upon the implementation of cross-platform play. It made its debut after a software update toward the end of FIFA 22’s year-long lifespan, but it could only be played in specific game modes and was somewhat condensed. It now functions properly across almost all multiplayer game modes, including Ultimate Team, and even displays an icon above each player that indicates the gaming platform they are using.
There is no question that throughout the years, FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) has emerged as the most well-liked component of the series. This is true despite the fact that career mode, Volta, and seasons all offer their own unique forms of entertainment. The most recent version won’t be any different from the previous ones.
It is laid out almost exactly the same as it was in FIFA 22, but there has been a significant adjustment made to the way in which you can put together your team. After many years of following a format that was almost entirely unchanged, the chemistry system has been revised. Now, rather than having linking lines between players from the same league, team, and/or country, they can be enhanced through a three-point system. According to this system, the more points earned through compatible teammates being in the same starting 11, the higher the benefit of a chemistry add-on they’ll receive.
The most significant difference from previous years is that you are not required to place matching players next to each other on the team. Instead, you are free to position them wherever you see fit throughout the roster. In addition, as soon as you have three players who match up with each other to build up the three points on each, you are free to use players from other leagues and countries.
Because of this, you now have significantly more leeway in the formation of teams than in the past. It is possible, for instance, to have a combined team playing in the Premier League and La Liga without incurring any penalties related to player performance. When you don’t have to make sure that players are standing next to each other on the pitch, player matching is much simpler, despite the fact that it might sound difficult when you first hear about it.
Alterations were also made to the positions of the players in the Ultimate Team. You are now only able to change a player’s starting position according to their actual abilities in the real world.
