Teachers play a crucial part in children’s lives, and the destiny of any nation is heavily dependent on their hands. Also, illiteracy is still a significant social problem in the twenty-first century, and skilled instructors are needed to help eradicate it. Hence, volunteering to teach the members of society suffering from educational inequality became one of my most meaningful experiences.
Here are five reasons for you to volunteer as a teacher for less privileged children based on my experience.
#1 Education: One of the Strongest Pillars of Society
Education is the key to eradicating gender disparity, reducing poverty, building a sustainable world, preventing unnecessary health concerns, and spreading awareness and peace. An estimated 61 million primary-aged children are not in school, with nearly half coming from developing, impoverished nations. I took pride in doing something to help them take the first steps to let them escape living in poverty.
#2 Knowledge is for Sharing
Helping children suffering from the effects of poverty by imparting my knowledge was a rewarding experience for me. Nothing can compare to the pride anyone will feel after seeing the joy they find in learning something new. As a volunteer teacher, you will have the opportunity to share your expertise with the children. You may tell them tales, teach them to sing, dance, and paint, and inspire them to dream large and aspire for a brighter future.
#3 Encourage Them to Dream
I noticed that children suffering from the effects of poverty do not dare to dream of a better future. Volunteering will allow you to work with children who have had terrible upbringings and are attempting to reintegrate into society. As a volunteer, you will have the ability to give your aspirations wings. Talk to these vulnerable youngsters, listen to their tales, share your experiences, and attempt to make a difference in their lives.
#4 Changes Your Outlook in Life
Believe me when I tell you that your volunteer experience as a teacher for children experiencing educational inequality will alter your perspective on life. If you are anything like me, you will realise that hundreds of children do not even have the basics for a good life. Yet, they are constantly cheerful and smiling. You will become more modest and sensitive. It will also motivate you to endeavour to accept everything with delight. They will teach you to appreciate even the littlest things and be grateful for every opportunity that comes your way.
#5 Meet People that See the World Like You
Volunteering makes you a part of a multicultural community where you can discuss and exchange ideas and opinions with fellow volunteers. You will all contribute energy and happiness to the educational atmosphere, allowing children living in poverty to have a brighter future.
